Brief Biographical Sketch:

Broadly, I am interested in how environmental change impacts animal behavior, ecology, and evolution. Specifically, I am studying how urbanization influences wildlife populations in Southern California using the bird, the dark-eyed junco as a model. When I am not conducting research, I enjoy connecting with students through mentorship at all different levels. I am a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in STEM and aim to promote these values in my work whenever possible.

S174: Evolution in Action: From Birds to Bacteria in Splash Winter 2020 (Feb. 01, 2020)
Students will learn about the concept of rapid evolution in urban environments. Using an avian species as a model, students will learn about current, ongoing research at UCLA and how evolution is acting on bird populations on UCLA's very own campus. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of how urbanization impacts microscopic species like bacteria, and its connection to wildlife in the city.
